About Downtown Denver

Denver, Colorado was founded in 1858 as a result of a gold rush in the Kansas Territory. Because it is located at a mile above sea level, Denver was nicknamed the "Mile High City." It is the second largest city in the mountain west after Phoenix. The downtown area is the center of commercial, financial and entertainment activity in Denver. The most distinctive feature of the Denver skyline is Republic Plaza, the tallest building in Colorado. Several well known downtown Denver attractions include Coors Field, the Molly Brown House Museum and the US Mint.

Home of the Colorado Rockies baseball team, Coors Field has seen record attendance rates since it opened in 1995. Tours of the stadium are available six days a week during baseball season. The Mountain Ranch Bar and Grille, located behind right field, allows for ticket holders to enjoy the game while also enjoying delicious traditional American cuisine.

The Molly Brown House Museum is the historic home of Molly Brown, social reformer and survivor of the Titanic disaster. Built in 1889, the mansion was saved from demolition in the 1970s by Historic Denver, Inc. The museum contains exhibits with items that celebrate Molly Brown's life and the history of Denver.

The Denver Mint was established the year after the city was founded. It houses silver and gold bullion and relics from early minting processes. Tours at the US Mint in Denver cover both the history of the mint as well as an overview of current minting practices. Visits include viewing of the engraving rooms and productions floors.
